A warm welcome awaits you! Tranquil rural location just one mile from the coastal footpaths, the Market Town of Bridport and a good local pub! We have fabulous panoramic views from every room and we like to serve your hearty breakfasts on the patio whenever possible. All rooms are spacious and ensuite and we aim to make your stay special. If you usually drive through Dorset, please don't, instead think long sweeping beaches, quaint Lyme Regis, arty Bridport, sleepy rural villages and a foodie's paradise with top chefs and some great pubs! The perfect base from which to explore and if you're walking the coastal footpaths the Jurassic bus stops outside our entrance.

We were very well looked after by Pauline and John. Our room was spacious and comfortable and it was nice to have fresh milk and regular tea and coffee, not in saches. Breakfasts were delicious, with that bit of extra care taken.

John & Pauline were very friendly, making us feel very welcome from the time of our arrival. A pot of tea and cake was there waiting for us to make us feel at home. Very clean and tidy rooms and comfortable bed - everything available to make our stay enjoyable.

Tips:

The local pub/restaurant, tucked away in a small village, turned out to be a delightful place to eat. With friendly and helpful staff and delicious food. They were very accommodating as we had not booked a table. The menu was varied to include food for all tastes. Definitely worth a visit - and within walkable distance from Highway Farm.

A really lovely B & B set in beautiful countryside with wonderful views. Tasty breakfasts were dished up every day with plenty of variety - all home cooked. Hosts were very knowledgeable of the area and gave good advice of where to visit and eat in the evenings. There are plenty of books and maps available to read and borrow. Our bedroom and en-suite was clean and tastefully decorated. Would definitely recommend to others.

Tips:

We enjoyed our evening meals at the Ilchester Arms - Symondsbury (but take a torch if walking there). Also the George and the Clock House in Chideock were very good too.

Dear Pauline and John ... you know that I thoughly enjoyed my short stay with you. Essentially - for me - it was the fishing that drew me in .... but - in truth - that is only a small element of the joy that is offered by Highway Farm and beautiful Dorset I do hope to be able to return just after Easter next year. Everything was great !!

Tips:

Obviously the Ilchester Arms in Symondsbury (when open) is a lovely local attraction ... but I did not eat there. The Street Market in Bridport (Wednesday morning) was great value and Colmer's Hill and other local (maped) walks are exhilarating for those fit and able enough to take advantage of these assets. The Weatherspoons' Pub in Bridport represents great value for good Pub Food. =============================== Many Thanks, once more !! Malcolm ========

Rooms lovely and very comfortable. Service excellent and you are made to feel well cared for by Pauline and John. Delicious breakfasts cooked to order. The setting and views are also beautiful and it's just a short run into Bridport from Here, with the whole of the Jurassic Coast on the doorstep. We have stayed here many times and can recommend it wholeheartedly.

Tips:

We like the Anchor at Burton Bradstock and the Seagulls at West Bay as places to eat. Both very good. So many things to do and places to go both indoors and out, but the Swannery at Abbotsbury is pretty unique, and the village itself is lovely too. Monkey World and World of Tanks also interesting and you are close to Lulworth and Corfe castles. In the Devon direction there is Lyme Regis and Charmouth plus Seaton and Sidmouth. Donkey Sanctuary, Beer Caves etc. Plenty to see and do plus beautiful scenery including Chesil Beach. Weymouth is a traditional seaside town and worth a visit.

We came to Bridport for a wedding nearby and were so impressed with the area we wished we could have stayed longer! We had a lovely welcome with tea and cske on the terrace with fabulous views. Breakfast was also served on the terrace and was lovely. We intend to return and would happily stay at Highway Farm again unless we bring our little dog and then we will look for a dog friendly cottage.

Tips:

Take walking boots! We ate at the Olive tree in Bridport and that is highly recommended as is the Bull opposite!

From our arrival to departure the people at Highways Farm could not do enough for us. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

Tips:

The local pub.The Ilchester arms,is great. A good old fashioned pub, not a fussy "Gastro"pub which predominate in our local area. Good food, big portions. The recommended walk from the farm to the cliffs and along to West Bay is really easy to follow and spectacular. Lyme Regis a must to visit for its views and shops.

We needed peace and relaxation in preparing for (and recovering from) a family wedding. Highway Farm could not have been more suited to our needs. The views are spectacular, and a monstrous gale raging outside, only added to the feelings of warmth and peace. We look forward to returning.

Tips:

The Thai restaurant in Bridport appears to be a little pricey. But if you are on holiday, does it matter? If coming from the East, and through Bridport, it is wiser to turn left at the junction withy the main road, go to the Garden Centre roundabout, and return on the correct side of the road.

The poached pears and yoghurt start led to the magnificent full English. Our 2 night visit simply was not long enough.

Tips:

Colmers Hill is in direct view - good for a scenic walk. Symondsbury Village with its pub, historic church, the Symonsbury Estate has a café, a country store & gift shop, artisan units etc plus the 14th century Tithe Barn make it real village.

We all really loved Highway Farm. It would be impossible to rate it too highly. The rooms are better than in many starred hotels, the food delicious and all local produce, and the welcome and hospitality from hosts John & Pauline made us feel right at home. We will definitely be recommending Highway Farm to our friends.

Tips:

We came to Bridport specifically to attend a wedding, so didn't get much exploring time. However, we know that Rachel's Seafood Bar at West Bay is worth a visit as is the famous Stable Bar at The Bull Hotel which is famous for its pizzas.

We love you both Pauline and John and are so very grateful to be able to stay with you at Highway Farm again. You are the hostess with the mostest! Location perfect, room lovely, breakfasts - AMAZING, Carp Lakes - Brilliant, walks and views to die for. You look after us so well and your love and passion for the area really helped us, when the weather let us down a bit. You couldn't be better - we love you and have no hesitation to recommend you to anyone. Simply the best - better than all the rest!!

Tips:

Everywhere local is worth going to see. Fantastic local walks from the back door, Symondsbury, Colmers Hill, Ilchester Arms, Jurassic Coast - fossil Hunting, Bridport, West Bay, Lyme Regis, Portland Bill, Weymouth, Abbotsbury - Swannery, Golden Cap views, so many places to eat and drink. Don't forget your fishing Rods and a net - the Carp-lakes at the Farm are wonderful, you have to be an idiot not to catch a fish!!!

Our second visit was even better than the first...Enjoyed the friendly banter and wonderful cooked breakfasts on the terrace overlooking the valley. Pauline gave us lots more ideas for interesting visits so we hope to be back again next year for more Dorset magic!

Tips:

The most friendly pub we found was the Crown at Uploaders with very reasonable meals. Also excellent evening meal at Symondsbury Kitchen. Don't miss the short two mile cliff walks from Burton Bradstock to West Bay, and Eype to Seatown, along paths covered in pink thrift in May. Other highlights were Lodmoor Nature Reserve in Weymoouth where we saw marsh harriers, a Weymouth cruise round the bay to Portland harbour, Abbotsbury Swannery with hundreds of swans nesting, the Town Mill museum in Lyme Regis and watching badgers at Beaminster on our last evening.

We arrived and received a very friendly welcome from Pauline and John. We had arranged a family get together for our 50th Wedding anniversary so we booked all 4 rooms. They were all bright comfortable rooms with excellent power showers, one room has a bath. We were lucky with the weather it was sunny but baby Isaac was unwell so we couldn't go far. Pauline and John were so kind allowing us to use the facilities at Highway farm to the full. We had picnics in the garden and the boys fished in the lakes. The setting is wonderful with fantastic views. We can Highly recommend Highway Farm and will definitely visit again.

Tips:

The local restaurants that we used and can recommend were as follows. The Manor house at West Bexington was a good choice for our 50th special meal. The Seagulls at West Bay an inexpensive well cooked meal. The local Illchester Arms where we had a good pub meal. There is so much to do in the area, good walks and wonderful beaches. Bridport a market town is on the doorstep and has some interesting street markets a good selection of shops and a riverside walk.

Lovely friendly welcome, including delicious cake! Comfortable room, fantastic breakfasts, good instructions for getting to coastal path and to Symondsbury and Bridport. Fresh flowers everywhere are a special touch.

Tips:

Supper at Ilchester Arms - nice atmosphere with log fire...table next to it would have been roasting! Food slightly overpriced. Dinner at The Olive Tree on Sat night was great. Fab fresh fish, and a buzzy atmosphere. Our favourite part of the mini break was walking the coastal path to Charmouth - a really blustery, drizzly day meant we virtually had it to ourselves! If you want a quick visit to the sea, you can drive to Chideock and walk down to Seatown - beautiful sunset on Good Friday down there... We stopped at Maiden Castle on the way home - an incredible place, shame about the hailstorm when we were on the top!! All in all a great location and plenty to do - we just didn't have long enough... Thank you to Pauline and John.

We really loved our stay at Highway Farm. We received a very warm welcome from Pauline and John. We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in room 1, which was a lovely size with a wonderful bed that was so comfortable. The ensuite bathroom had plenty of room and the shower was fab. My husband is 6ft 4, so it was great for him to have so much room! The cooked Breakfast was scrummy and Pauline surprised us each morning with a different delicious fruit starter. The views take your breath away and your soul is refreshed. There is also the huge bonus of two carp lakes, which we took full advantage of each afternoon. We had so much fun and must have caught 150 fish over 5 afternoons between the pair of us. 2 - 5lb - but there are bigger fish in there!!!! I bought Pauline's cookbook so that I can try out some of her lovely recipes and cried when we had to come home. Pauline and John are fabulous hosts and we will definitely be coming back. We can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you.

Tips:

Carp fishing in the Lakes at the Farm - wow Jurassic Coast - hunt for Fossils everywhere along the coast. Stunning views and coastal walks bring your walking boots! See where some of Broadchurch was filmed at West Bay with the gorgeous cliffs. Plenty of great places to eat in Bridport, Symondsbury - Illchester Arms and there is also a large supermarket at Bridport. The Lobster Pot at Portland Bill is a great place to eat. There are lots of local farm shops and the Moores Biscuit Makers just down the road. Everyone at home loved the biscuits that were brought back as small gifts, wish we had bought more!!!

Fabulous location, room, facilities, breakfast and owners. Couldn't have asked for more and will definitely go back. This is right on the coastal path so you can walk straight from the front door. Breakfast was delicious. Room was huge with en suite wet room. Owners Pauline & John were welcoming, chatty and really informative. They really did think of everything.

Tips:

Local pub as recommended by Pauline & Jonn was lovely and a fairly short walk. Lots of walks locally. The coastal walk to Charmouth is hard work but worth it. Lovely pub halfway in Seatown called The Anchor. Lyme Regis is lovely for shopping. Lots of pretty villages to explore.

Have already passed on a recommendation to our friends in Andover. Felt right at home after a very warm welcome. Breakfast a delightful surprise, every morning a little different. Would not dream of staying anywhere else when in this area.

Tips:

Excellent meal at The George in Chidocke. Grandchildren discovered the joys of catching crabs. Investment in a crab net well worth doing!

Lovely breakfasts. Very welcoming hosts with lots of local information.

Tips:

Nothing to add to info given by hosts. Some concerns that all local restaurants seem to welcome dogs which are fed by owners under tables and try to interact with each other. If you don't like dogs, don't eat out!

Lots of useful info supplied. Lovely breakfast. Friendly hosts. Nice garden with view to sit in.

Tips:

Restaurants including pubs needed booking in advance. We had been warned but failed to act on the information! We were lucky that we got a table somewhere each night. Only one place in walking distance. Plenty of things to do during the day were in driving distance.

Ilchester Arms 15 minutes walk and also to Symondsbury Kitchen, open daytimes and Friday and Saturday evenings. Bridport town centre is a 25 minutes walk from here, and there's a lovely coastal walk to The Anchor at Seatown 45 mins, or The New Inn at Eype 30 minutes. Hope this is helpful, list of taxi nos in each room.

Perfect location and excellent hosts made our first visit to Dorset a memorable experience. Pauline and John could not have done more for us. Brilliant breakfast of local produce made for a great start to the day. They also had lots of ideas for things to do and where to go and were a mine of local information. The best B&B establishment we've visited for years! Excellent spacious room with roomy shower facilities, comfy seats and a spectacular view of Colmers Hill. The fridge was so useful on the landing. Wonderful breakfasts - loved the fresh fruit, home-made bread and marmalade and being outside in the fresh air most mornings. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful - with a sense of humour too!

Tips:

Best pub we found for meals was The Anchor at Burton Bradstock - loved the fishy dishes, the duck and their fruity Summer Pudding was the best for miles around! Helpful staff too. Highlights of the holiday were seeing three badgers at Beaminster Badgers, travelling on the Seaton tram from Colyton through the bird reserve estuary, going to the new Portland Bill Lighthouse Visitor Centre, walking the cliffs at Burton Bradstock near the Hive Café and seeing butterflies galore at Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens.

9th August 2015:

Very friendly, hospitable and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Worth reading the info first - e.g. Pauline happy to help with drying outdoor clothes etc. Pauline and John are very willing to find solutions to any little difficulties - 'can do' approach. Great fund of useful local knowledge about things to do and see as well as essentials like the best shops, places to eat, where to go etc. Outside are children's play options and things to explore. Feed the fishes and geese in the ponds with bread - great for 8-11 year olds!

Tips:

For grandparents with granddaughters 11 and 8: Olive Tree rather expensive but good food. Taj Mahal good value if they like Asian food, Long's King St restaurant room very good - fast friendly service, helpful, good range of seafood, licensed, good value. The Watch House at West Bay v good for pizza and small number of seafood options but limited range for children and rather expensive. West Bay harbourside kiosks for take-away fish and chips excellent, including children's portions which are just right. Bigger range of mainstream eating at Dorchester easy to access - about 20-25 min drive, follow A35 past Poundbury to Weymouth roundabout and turn left towards town. About 1 mile to large car park on left with Pizza Express, Nando's and similar all in walking distance across the road (Weymouth Avenue). Enjoyed Abbotsbury Swannery - excellent for all; children's farm OK but v expensive lunch, limited range, not good value. Portland Bill lighthouse good. Fossil walk from Lyme museum very good for all incl seniors! Also recommend museum itself. Beaches and facilities at Charmouth and Burton Bradstock were the best.

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights at Highway Farm, which is in a delightful location and extremely convenient for West Dorset. The owners were charming and always eager to please. Our bedroom and bathroom were well equiped, very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were outstanding with lovely fresh fruit, homemade bread (very good!) and full English breakfast ingredients sourced locally. We can only give this B&B the highest rating.

We have been coming to Highway Farm for a weekend or two each year since 2007. That in itself, I feel, speaks volumes. The standard of hospitality is constantly excellent as John and Pauline always make us so very welcome. Each time we come down it is a joy to turn into the drive with the assurance of a first class weekend ahead.

Tips:

There is a wealth of restaurants and pubs to suit every taste and pocket. An excellent market twice a week. Long and short walks to enable you to explore this beautiful area. Museums and art galleries. Abbotsbury with its Swannery and The Fleet are a few miles away along the most spectacular and breathtaking of coastal roads.

All the information about the area and what was going on was very helpful. The little touches such as homemade cake and tea on arrival were great. One of the best places I have ever stayed in and didn't want to leave! Thank you John and Pauline for helping me to have one of the best weeks ever and I will definitely be back .

12th August 2014:

Pauline and John were excellent hosts and we could not have had a better welcome. The room gave us everything we wanted and we both slept like logs. The full breakfast cooked on the Aga went down very well and it was mid afternoon when I wanted something to eat.Vickie really enjoyed her boiled egg with dippy soldiers. Pauline's home made cakes were superb as were the lunches that the stained glass course members had. Vickie was booked on the stained glass course that was running that weekend. She really enjoyed it. It was hard work but it was worth it. The tutor could not have been more helpfull and was only too willing to help course members who were unsure with the practical stages. I was able to escape during the day and visited the Peco gardens and model railway exhibitions high on the hill in Beer. For model railway enthusiasts a visit there is a must. After that I went the short distance and had a ride on the trams in Seaton. All in all it was a fantastic short break and we returned to our home in Poole tired but happy.

Tips:

Lula's situated on the main road through Bridport can be recommended. They are open on a limited number of evenings so it would pay you to check. They are open every lunchtime. The meal was out of this world and was very reasonably priced. The staff were very pleasant and helpfull. I'm sorry to say that the visit to West Bay left us disappointed. Our fish and chips meal from one of the cabins around the harbour was probably the worst we have ever had. Followers of the TV series Broadchurch and who wanted to see where the programme was filmed will have wasted time and money.

Over the years Chris and I have had the pleasure of visiting Highway Farm many times and the experience is never short of being perfect. The rooms are very clean and well appointed with the attention to detail of a 5* hotel. This location also offers an attached self-catering cottage as well as 4 lovely B+B rooms. Pauline's breakfasts are superb and if you are lucky with the weather, as we usually seem to be, these taken on the patio with its stunning views are truly memorable. This former farm is set in some beautiful countryside with plenty of paths down to the sea along the Jurassic Coast. There are even fishing ponds on site for those who prefer their own company for long periods of time. Our last stay here was July 2014.

What a wonderful few days we enjoyed at your farm. Every facility was top notch, the food, the beautiful room with all the added extras that made our stay so so special. You made us so welcome. Yourself and John are perfect hosts and we will certainly be back again. We have sung your praises to all our friends. Today I am making some recipes from your Kiss cookbook, the apple cake and the chocolate cake for my grandsons as they are coming for the weekend, so fingers crossed that they turn out as good as yours. We particularly enjoyed our walk up to the beacon from your garden terrace, what spectacular views. Thank you both so much for you hospitality and I hope you have a super time with your grandson. Later on this afternoon I will complete the Trip Adviser review. Once again thank you so much for the lovely time and we will see you again in the not too distant future. 22nd June 2014:

Just a fabulous place to stay" From the initial warm welcome with a cup of tea, to wonderful breakfasts with really good locally sourced top quality ingredients served in a delightful dining room dedicated entirely to guests, or on the outside patio with views down to Bridport. This place has nothing to complain about and lots to commend and is a credit to the hosts John and Pauline. The room we had was exemplary with a walk in shower and luxurious big white towels. Tea and coffee facilities in the room and if you didn't have what you needed one literarily just had to ask and it was sorted. A large comfortable bed and most important an easy going genuinely friendly welcome from the hosts. This place beats any hotel experience by a mile. If in West Dorset again we will be back, just simply a delightful place to stay.

Tips:

Ilchester Arms Symondsbury "A delightful welcome and good food on a quiet June Sunday evening" We went from highway farm B & B to eat on a quiet Sunday evening. There were only a few people in the bar but the welcome was very genuine and warm Small things like the lady behind the bar coming to us to take an order, rather than order at the bar, her serving us with drinks as soon as we needed them and easy going conversation that was not intrusive and very well received. The food was a real surprise and very good, the service was excellent and all the food cooked fresh. We enjoyed a special of chicken with a Gruyere and mustard sauce served with fresh vegetables and it was just superb. Certainly one of the best meals I have eaten in a pub. The vegetables were a delight with a lovely blend of sweet red cabbage, a savoury mashed parsnip and French beans. The veg on it's own would have been lovely. A really good meal and I would recommend others to go and find them, it is worth the short journey from Bridport centre.

Really nice people, who make the most perfect breakfast we've ever had in a B&B. (Freshly baked bread. Delicious fruit salad with ginger. Homemade juices etc. etc.) ...in a very homely setting with other guests you get to chat to at the big dining table with a stunning view! The location is also very good for exploring the Jurassic Coast and picturesque sea-towns like Lyme Regis or Bridport, but the B&B is located near the busy country road, which might (for especially sensitive people) be kind of a drawback, as you can hear it (not too loud though).
