A lovely welcome from Kay immediately on arrival. Really friendly. Excellent attention to detail in the room (stayed in the twin room), and really good that Kay was adaptable to the breakfast time in order to fit in with my plans in the morning. Highly recommeded and value for money.

Enjoy the beaches in both directions from this B+B

Park Rose large dual aspect bedroom with walk-in rain drench shower. Very convenient off A35 and for all the local beaches and walks.

Tips:

Ask to have neighbours fence chain to be taken down when trying tp park car and when leaving - very tight unless you have small car. Olive Tree in Bridport excellent fresh fish and not fancy dining. Also Ilchester Arms just over 3 miles away with large portion meals. Eat in the bar for atmosphere and book both as they get busy.

Very friendly helpful hostess. Wonderful shower and bathroom. Wonderful suggestion for rural pub for dinner which was excellent.

Somewhat out of the way but sometimes that is what you want. Need to tailor luggage to narrow steep high staircases. Close to quaint tourist town of Lyme Regis and many more that we didn’t have the time to see.

We were given a friendly warm welcome by Kay with homemade cake and a pot of tea together with advice on the area. Our room was large with a comfortable bad and great shower room with numerous complimentary drinks and toiletries. Breakfast was superb and was the best that we’ve had whilst staying in B&B’s. Kay uses local produce as much as possible and this shows.

Tips:

Kay is very knowledgeable on local attractions, restaurants etc and is very happy to pass this information on.

Tips:

Close to A35 but felt tucked away in countryside so perfect if looking for a stop over. Also good base for exploring local area - we visited Lyme and also walked from the property up onto the coastal path with stunning views of Golden Cap - about an hour’s walk away.

Tips:

Portland Bill is well worth a visit. Climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse, if you've got the energy. You may even see a Grey seal.If you like walking visit Golden Cap,which starts as a peaceful walk through a wooded area, before uphill to the top, to see fantastic views of the whole area. Have a go at fossil hunting at Charmouth beach or find a fossil at West Bay,which we did.

We found Kay and Julian very welcoming and friendly. The delicious warm lemon cake and tea on arrival was lovely and morning breakfasts set us up for the day. They take great care and pride in their property and the house decor was beautiful, clean and tidy. Views from our room, lovely gardens, and the sound of birds made it feel very tranquil and relaxing. Many thanks to you both for our stay.

Tips:

Very convenient for Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Sea Town, and for accessing the National Trust car park at Langdon for a 40 minute walk up to the Golden Cap. Choose a nice day as the views are amazing, we walked to Sea Town afterwards and enjoyed a cooling drink at the Anchor Inn. For evening pub meals locally we enjoyed meals at The George, Chideock and The Anchor Inn at Burton Bradstock(same pub name but different locations)

Our stay was short but felt as though as much care was taken of our needs as if we’d been long term guests. The muffin was the clincher for my son and as he does not normally comment on food his appreciation of the texture was astounding! The linen was fresh and of good quality and the size of the room a bonus. The tea coffee tray was good as unlike other places it had plenty of milk. Thank you for the tea and cake on our arrival and the recommendations of places to eat.

To walk along the garage to the BN3 gate. I know you told us but maybe a sign pointing in the direction as I thought the drive belonged to another property and this, private. Maybe another chair in lotus?

We loved our visit last week and seeing you both and enjoying all your hospitality and meeting your lovely friends. Such a nice welcome on arrival with tea and brilliant lemon drizzle cake. It felt so special being the last guests of 2019! Very Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2019.

Tips:

Loved sitting in the Windy Corner Café at West Bay watching the wild sea in the recent gales. If in a walking mood recommend a walk up to the Golden Cap. The Rose and Crown at Trent near the Yeovil was a very good gasto pub. Good food. Also enjoyed our visit to Felicity's Farm Shop just along the road.

A fantastic B&B owned by a lovely couple. Kay and Julian made us feel instantly welcome with tea and cake on arrival. The facilities could not be faulted. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely ultra modern shower room. All those little extras you like to find were supplied, soap, shower gel, shampo, conditioner, hand cream and all were good quality. Even the tea making facilities in the room has an amazing selection of beverages. It is this attention to detail that makes your stay special. Breakfast is also up to the same high quality with food to suit all tastes and of course a well cooked full English breakfast. The B&B is only just off the main road so easy access to everywhere but it is tucked away so it is very quiet. I cannot fault anything so thank you both for a lovely stay. We will be recommending you to our friends.

Tips:

Plenty to do in the area with lovely beaches at Seatown, Charmouth, West Bay and Lyme Regis. Coastal walks in abundance. If you like rummaging through antiques and collectibles there is plenty of places to visit in Bridport along with a collectables market ever Saturday in South Street.

From the moment we arrived to our tea/coffee and cake we knew that we had found a perfect place to spend three nights and more if we could. The twin bedded room was superb and the beds were so comfy we did not want to get up. Breakfast was very nice with cereals, fruit, toast and a full english which was nicely cooked. The hosts Kay and Julian were excellant. Definitely one to remember and go back to.

Tips:

Ideal base for walkers ie golden cap which is a must and the coastal path. Marquis of Lorne in Nettlecombe Bridport a very nice Pub restaurant.

5th September 2018:

This was one of the most lovely B&Bs I've ever stayed in. The staff were welcoming and lovely - even greeting us with a pot of tea and slice of cake at check-in. The room was spacious, had wifi, lovely ensuite shower, TV, mirror with plug next to it and tea & coffee facilities complete with water and some lovely biscuits. All the hot drinks options were fairtrade too. Breakfast was lovely - I'm pretty sure most things were fairly locally made including the lovely jams. There was a selection of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast and fresh fruit juice as well as cooked breakfast options.

Tips:

I strongly recommend trips to Westbay (parking at the beach carpark is £2 for the whole day - you do need change, as no card option and the parking app is temperamental), and would have loved to have checked out Charmouth Beach and Golden Cap (walking distance from B&B). Bridport is a short drive away and has some lovely wee shops and the tourist information centre has some helpful guides - I strongly recommend the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty one which gives you 40 places in Dorset to see and picnic at. The Jurassic Coast bus service takes you along a route with lovely views if you've not got a car. If you do have a car to do some day trips, I recommend the beaches at Westbay, Burton Bradstock, Chesil Beach at Abbotsbury, Ringstead, Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door, Tyneham village (there's a lovely beach 20 minutes walk from the car park and toilets) and Studland South Beach for the coastal path walk to Old Harry's Rocks.

Wonderful place to stay, excellent accommodation and the best bathroom I've ever used! Kay & Julian are both very friendly. I can't fault this B&B at all and will definitely be booking again in the future.

Tips:

I can't offer any tips for local pubs/restaurants etc as I was picked up each morning by my friends and visited surrounding areas i.e. Bridport, Burton Bradstock and lastly West Bay (Broadchurch location) where I had the best scones & clotted cream, and I've had many! The guide book in the room offers lots of suggestions though.

This B&B is a home away from home. It's located in a culdesac with a patio in a very quiet area. We were warmly welcomed with a slice of lemon cake & cup of tea, which was appreciated after our long drive. Proprietors were friendly & helpful, offering good suggestions. Our room (Rose) was spacious &Immaculately clean with Power shower. The tea tray was one of the best, with all quality products. Breakfast was fantastic. Good quality & mainly local/free range products. We really enjoyed our stay here. Will love to revisit and have "POACHED EGGS" & Local sausages for breakfast.

Tips:

The George Inn at Chideok ,5 minutes down the road has a Thursday Pizza Night with Pizza done in a Kiln. The food is delectable with generous portions. A Farm shop is nearby . Walks around the area are peaceful for the young and old. Easy commute to the Jerassic Coast and Lyme Regis by car.

Spacious and attractive room with pretty countryside views, nice decorative touches and great shower room. Kay was a very welcoming and attentive host and a pot of tea and cake offered on arrival much appreciated. It seemed nearer 5 miles from Lyme than the 3 suggested but nevertheless no more than 10 mins drive. Thoroughly recommended.

Tips:

Plenty of great walking views near the accommodation, with Langdon Hill and Golden Cap 45 mins on foot and easy NT parking if driving. Mill visitor centre in the middle of Lyme is well worth a free visit. A charity run entirely by volunteers who deserve the donation suggested, and included an informative guided tour of the working mill with a knowledgeable enthusiast. There is also a craft shop and art gallery. And really recommend the Millside restaurant for dinner. Not excessively pricey and the ratings are fully justified.

A lovely bed & breakfast and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We had a lovely breakfast with local produce and was very tasty. We would love to come back again.

Tips:

The hive beach cafe at Burton Bradstock for lunch overlooking the sea. Monkey World at Wareham, an amazing sanctuary for rescued apes and primates from across the world. The Marquis of Lorne, Nettlecombe, Bridport DT6 3SY for an amazing dinner.

A warm welcome, a charming room, lovely en-suite, beautiful douvet and pillows and an excellent breakfast. You could not ask for more.

Tips:

Follow directions on the website. Don't follow the sat nav from Bridport. Turn down the narrow road immediately beside the Village Hall. Front door is behind the garage.

Kay and Julian are excellent hosts. Really good breakfast and a large comfortable and clean bedroom with on-suite facilities.

Tips:

We dined at The George Chideock, The Three Horseshoes at Burton Bradstock and The Anchor Inn at Seatown on our 3 night stay. By far the best was at The Three Horseshoes where the meal was exceptional although a little pricey. Halsons is a good location for visiting Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seatown, West Bay, Bridport and further afield. An added bonus, can walk to Golden Cap from the B&B.

I had some difficulty in finding Halstons (satnav not much good for this location) but once found it is delightful. A lovely peaceful setting. The Lotus room where I stayed was a large comfortable room with a splendid bed and excellent bath room. Breakfast was lovely with lots of fresh fruit plus the "full English" with lots of options if required. Extremely good value for money. Jane was an excellent hostess.

Tips:

Follow the directions on the Halstons website - don't rely on the sat nav it will take you in the wrong direction.

This was a superb visit for us. Very spacious accommodation, decorated and furnished to excellent taste with attention to the smallest detail. Delicious breakfast, freshly cooked to order, local produce with very generous choice and all beautifully presented. Kind and friendly hosts who extended a very warm welcome and always happy to offer help and advice on the local area. Nothing was too much trouble.

Tips:

Look at the map! The property is close to the A35. (I'm a very light sleeper and was NOT disturbed by traffic noise.) For evening meals, a car is required, as no restaurant in walking distance. Perfect spot to enjoy this beautiful part of Dorset.....Bridport, Charmouth, Lyme Regis, cliff walks, fossil beaches etc

little hard to find gem of a B&B with a cosy room where you can see and feel how much attention to detail was put into everything. Great quality shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (not the cheap stuff you get in most hotels), best hair dryer I have in encountered in my many years of travelling. Loved our accommodation, very spacious room, lots of little things that made it extra special. It was so nice to be welcomed with a cup of tea and delicious cake, especially after a long journey, by our delightful hosts. Although we had the benefit of being in the depths of the beautiful Dorset countryside you are still close enough to main resorts and many places of interest. We so much enjoyed the superb breakfasts, not forgetting all the tasty corn bread, and the great chats with our hosts and the other guests during our stay. Will most definitely be back! Again all our thanks Kay and Julian. Sue and Russell

Tips:

We enjoyed all our meals out during our stay and would recommend them to visitors. They were: The George, Chideock The Crown, Pucknowle The Three Horseshoes, Powerstock During our stay we visited Seatown, just off the Chideock road which has a charming beach with lots of parking and walks, also a pub called The Anchor which over looks the beach. Another visit was to Barrington Court which is not far from Crewkerne, National Trust house and gardens. We also visited Washingpool Farm Shop and Café, just outside Bridport, which was featured in 'Broadchurch'. Of course no visit is complete without a visit to West Bay and surrounding areas.

This is the nicest guest house we have ever stayed in. Our room (Park Rose) was beautiful; quality furnishings and very comfy bed. Kay and her husband were really welcoming and the homemade Lemon drizzle cake was delicious, as was breakfast. We feel very lucky to have found this establishment and can't wait to go back.Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

Kay and Julian make an excellent team. Kay is very welcoming and helpful - in fact we felt we had known her for ages. She produced an excellent Lemon Drizzle Cake on our arrival which was most welcome. She recommended places to eat and where to stock up on the lovely sausages they serve. Julian is back of house in the kitchen making lovely breakfasts. We cannot recommend them highly enough. We stayed for three nights and our room was kept spick and span and the en-suite was cleaned every day.

Tips:

Seatown is a nice little place to spend a few hours. We visited the Anchor pub for coffee and from their balcony at the front, which is a suntrap, you have a lovely view of the bay and hills. We also ate at the George in Chikeock which provided a very good and reasonable evening meal.

Tips:

The George at Chiteock is reasonably priced and close by. Need to get there early or reserve as they do get very busy. The coastal path along from Morecombelake to Chesil beach is spectacular and walking distance from the B&B. Littlebredy was recommended to us by Kay and is a short drive away and well worth a visit. 9th April 2017:

After a week of hectic travelling, we wanted a gentle, quiet and relaxed evening and Halsons met those requirements perfectly. Kay met us at the front gate and walked us into the B&B and up to our room - loved the "up the stairs, across the landing, down stairs into our room"! She made us a welcoming cup of coffee and ensured we were settled. Lovely room with nice furniture (watch the ceiling over the beds, a little low, but not a problem). Up a few stairs to a beautifully renovated ensuite with a wide shower. Breakfast? Wow - selection of various cereals, toast etc, but a printed menu to select from cooked items (eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, etc etc). Warm, welcoming and set the tone for the day ahead. Regrets? Only one night stay. Thanks, Kay - we loved it, and the new paved patio will be a delightful setting for soaking up the sunshine!

Tips:

Be aware of the turn left, turn right, wiggle left, turn at the garage in the last few metres, but there is a little sign and if you're locked into the directions via AirB&B link, you'll be fine. We had an SUV and took it gently down the lane without any problems. The eating-out options are a few minutes drive away. Nothing available in the village of Morcombelake.

Tips:

A sat nav route suggests you leave the A35 just outside of Bridport and travel over a mile along winding single track roads to get to the B&B. It it best to stay onthe A35 to Morecombelake and then turn off. It is then only a few minutes from the A35. A ten minuite walk to the local shop 'Felicity's Farm Shop' is well worth a visit as they sell a very wide range of products from local beers and wines to hot meals and good quality gifts.

Our short stay was relaxing and enjoyable at Halson's. Kay met us when we drove into the parking space and insisted on carrying our case for us. Every conceivable comfort had been provided in our en-suite room and in the guest lounge and dining room. The food was very tasty, fresh and hot! I cannot recommend Halson's highly enough but it is by far the most comfortable and relaxing b&b we have stayed in. Kay is a natural hostess and one would never guess that running a b&b was a new venture for her and her husband.

Tips:

Kay has put together a very 'readable' guest information folder with interesting snippets of local history included. There are many places for eating out, visiting, rambling/walking/ cycling, etc. The easiest way to find answers would be to ask Kay herself.

Everything was fine for us and we appreciated you allowing us to stay in the lounge beyond the 'quit time' The coffee and cake upon arrival was particularly thoughtful. We thought the room temperature a little low until the evening heating came on and agian found it cool in the morning when there appeared to be no heat in the radiators - perhaps the cold snap caught you out ? The LED lights on the USB charge points were very bright at night and we would have preferred to have been able to turn them off

We received a very warm and friendly welcome, excellent service and the facilities were first class, we couldn't have asked for anything more and will most definitely recommend Halsons Bed and Breakfast to all of our family and friends. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Tips:

There is lots to see and do in this area of West Dorset even in the off peak season, plus Devon is only 4 miles away opening another county up to explore. Good local eateries abound but booking is advisable even in the quieter months.Remember to bring a torch for the darker evenings as street lighting is not always in abundance.

I stayed in this lovely, newly opened B&B to go to a friend's party nearby. I was on my own and was made to feel most welcome. I received a lovely cup of tea and home made cake on arrival and found the accommodation to be very comfortable with everything you need to hand. Lovely spacious room and ensuite, all beautifully decorated and recently renovated. A very personal experience much appreciated.

Cannot be faulted. A lovely room with a comfortable bed and an en suite shower not bettered by any hotel or B and B we have ever stayed in.I wish we had one as good! A beautiful breakfast and, in Kay, a faultless and charming hostess. We'll be there again. The whole house, obviously impressive enough before, has been superbly renovated and restored.

Tips:

With Bridport, the Fleet and Chesil Bank one way and Charmouth and Lyme the other, you can never forget you are in a uniquely beautiful part of the UK - and the world! Try the Anchor in Seatown. Be prepared to back up a few times to a passing place because the slope is steep and the road narrow. But the reward is a pub with lovely food and a view from the beer garden to die for!

We loved our stay with you ! Our welcome with tea & cake, our chat about East Anglia & your new business, our room - the bed & pillows were so comfy, breakfast; i liked the fact that you had a small menu that could be tailored to our choice. Fresh fruit is a winner. We loved the fact we could sit outside & enjoy a drink together, we didn't feel we had to hide ourselves away. We felt relaxed & welcomed. Thank you

Tips:

Bridport Saturday market - lovely atmosphere. The little cafe on the right as you enter Abbotsbury - very friendly Essex man runs it, he's very generous with his slices of cake ! Sunday lunch at The Bull Hotel in Bridport ( Im sure thats what it was called )

Room was comfortable with many nice touches (lemon cake and biscuits!) A chair might have been useful to put clothes on. Shower was lovely. Breakfast was great. Impressed that there was a choice of breakfast for vegetarians. Particularly liked the fresh strawberries and kiwi fruit and range of bread that we could toast ourselves. Cooked breakfasts were tasty. Very friendly host.

Tips:

Very easy to drive into Lyme Regis. Italia restaurant served good pizzas and staff helpful and friendly.

We had a lovely stay at Halsons B&B. The hosts were very welcoming and the rooms are presented to a very high standard. In a great location between Bridport and Lyme would defiantly recommend and hope to stay again.

Tips:

Drive to the B&B using the A35 - sat nav takes you on lovely but narrow country lanes!

Fabulous stay thanks

Tips:

Don't use sat-nav, Tom-tom takes you all round the houses for no obvious reason.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and we are very happy you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the travel tip. For some reason the sat nav systems seem to send people all round the long way, when we are actually only just s short way off the A35. Many thanks Kay

We had the most fabulous stay. Kay could not have been more helpful. The rooms are wonderful, beautifully decorated and with all the amenities and 'extras' you could ask for. We both slept very well.

Tips:

Although a car is a must, the B and B is perfectly placed for the Jurassic coast. We drove into Lyme to eat in the evenings. For walkers, the X53 Jurassic Coaster runs close by.

We would have liked a chair each, or stool in the bedroom as we has nowhere to put our clothes over night.. The notices advertising Halson's were confusing, we missed it first time.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We have taken on board the comments about finding us and have now put more signs up. As we are in a rural area and an area of outstanding natural beauty it is difficult to put signs out so we have done our best and hopefully we will be allowed to keep them out. Kind regards Kay
